The Great LJ Blackout
Jan. 17th, 2005 07:44 amWell, y'know, truth is, yes, I knew it happened, but I was just stopping by LJ to say, "Oh, gawd, please, I love World of Warcraft, someone drag me away from the computer periodically and make sure I have a life!"
Friday night, I announced to all and sundry exactly what I was going to do: I was gonna get caffeinated up and play all-frickin'-night long. We got home from dinner with the gang around 10:00 PM. I fired up the computer and played and played and played. Found
zrix on-line, so Mike and I joined forces with him. At 2:30 AM, Mike announced he was about to fall over and was going to bed. I told him I'd be up shortly after... At 4:00 AM, after getting to level 13, I crawled up after him.
Saturday morning, Mike and I completed working on my parents' fence. Their chainlink fence had gotten flattened in several spots after hurricane Ivan, so we ended up replacing several poles, most of the top rods of two sides, and almost all of the chainlink fabric of the same two sides. We've been putting in an hour or two several afternoons a week to work on the fence, but Saturday, we finished. We had lunch with the gang, saw "Elektra," then went back to the house to play.
ichicolco had ordered a copy from Blizzard and given Dave a 10-day guest pass which was included with his package (Like all good drugs, "The first hit is free.") It was kinda hard to play early on, I was feeling a bit cranky from lack of sleep, working all morning, and running around all afternoon, not to mention answering all of Dave's questions about the game. Rather than experimenting and finding out things about a game, Dave either requires a comprehensive manual, which he will read before actually playing a game, or he will ask an unending series of questions of all and sundry, i.e., me, Mike, and ichicolco. I think one of my eyes was starting to twitch.
Then Pensacola Pete did his usual--which is getting to be a really bad habit, he called at 9:30 PM and invited himself over. This means he shows up anywhere between 10 and 10:30 PM. This can be rough on us people who live on a "at work by 7 AM" schedule, but since I had a late night planned, in all conscience, I couldn't say no. What I wanted was to play in relative peace, not to have someone hanging over my shoulder offering a running commentary, "You're getting your *ss kicked, sis." Ummm, obvious much?
So I logged out and was social for an hour, and when he left, somewhere around 11:30 PM, I turned back to my computer and started playing in earnest. At 1:30 AM, Mike bailed. And 2:30-ish, I had to bail. ichicolco was so wiped, he crashed on the couch, since he has a long drive home. Dave, who lives a few blocks away, went home to play some more. (Dave works nights, so being up until 6 or 8 AM is normal for him.)
You know,
tedyfl and
ichicolco had this insane addiction to Diablo II for a long time. And I had friends who were on EverQuest AKA EverCrack. I enjoyed Diablo II a great deal, but I wasn't addicted, y'know? I'd listen to them and think, "Hmmm...I just don't get that last level of need to play." Well, folks, in just a scant week, I'm hooked, and hooked bad. I've set some strict, inviolate rules for myself:
Hence, Sunday night, tedyfl and his partner hosted an "Iron Chef America" premiere party. The idea was that we would bring unique dishes to the event. Because Mike and I couldn't peel ourselves away from the game in time, we were a bit last minute in preparing our dishes: blueberries in chocolate ganache; cream cheese and nut bonbons covered with chocolate ganache; and spiced nuts--all of them low-carb. Mike's confections came out fabulously, though we were a tad late getting there. :)
titos2cents and Mrs. Tito, not to mention Baby Tito were present as well, not to mention Dale and Dave. We played a game of "Seen It" (Movie edition), which tedy's team won (last time, I won a game and Mike won a game). Fun, fun, fun.
We made an early night of it because, sadly, of the 9 people present, I had to go to work this morning. I should have gone straight to bed when I got home, but instead, I spent an hour helping Mike with a quest... I did get to bed by midnight, though, and was at work by 7:00 AM. I'm only working a half day today. Then it's home and back to the game. :) Level 15 awaits.

- Thou shalt not turn down human interaction in favor of more game time
- Thou shalt not play past midnight on work nights
