Jun. 12th, 2001 01:21 pmMan, we got dumped on yesterday by the remnants of Allison. It stormed Sunday night and all Monday morning. It was hard to work with the serious sleeping-in weather going on, but, suddenly, around lunchtime, it was all over. The sun came out and it was beautiful and breezy! It was HARD to settle down and go to work with that glorious day staring at me through the window. (In short, it was just a hard day to work, period.)
Today is another beautiful day. Ooooo, I'm so tempted to just bail out of work, and burn some leave. But DragonCon and Networld are on the horizon, plus I want to take a real vacation this year, so I can't just go burning my last 2 weeks of leave willy-nilly! They are sending Mike to San Fran next week and I'm so tempted to bum along and just run amuck in the city while he does the work thing...but...money is tight... But, wow, I've been complaining about needing a vacation and I love the city!
So Vlad and I took a long lunch and he gave me a ride to Cox Cable, and I set up an appointment for activation/installation of digital cable service and internet! When I can sit on the floor in the middle of my empty living room and connect to the internet...I will be officially HOME, bed and clothes be damned! :)
I moved some stuff into the house yesterday and just puttered about. I'm still kinda freaked out. It hasn't sunk in yet, that this is MINE. It's like, OMIGAWD, this place is so huge! So much to take care of! I pulled into the driveway and noticed the trashcan on the curb. "Oh, that's MINE. I need to bring that back. Ummm...I wonder where it goes." Then as I was dragging the thing up the driveway, it occurred to me, "Hey, wrong thought process! The situation is 'Where do YOU want it to go?'!"
After Allison's downpour, it dawned on me, "My property...how did it fare through the storm?" I walked all over the front and back yards, piling up tree limbs for pick-up. Then it hit me again, "Oh, gawd, this is a BIG yard to have to maintain!"
After, I sat in one of the 4 chairs in the entire 2600 square feet of the house, the stools at the breakfast bar and thought to myself, I need something to drink. No glasses yet. I had, however, brought in a margarita mixer ("Millenium Margarita" from Red Lobster) that had been floating in the back of my car for the past year or so, so I rinsed that out. Oooo, instant hot water! A BIG change from my current house! I made some iced tea and sat, gazing around me in wonder. This is MY kitchen.
