Sep. 7th, 2001 11:37 amI had a good time last night. It will make you laugh, but last night I just geeked until the wee hours. I had three different computers open, was transferring hardware and installing software all over the house: Mike's little mini-puter, Pensacola Pete's 1 gig Athlon, and Pensacola Pete's old 566 MHz Celeron. Of course, my OWN computer is currently in pieces and non-functioning, but once all these other machines are done...well, then it's MY baby's turn! I intend to finally cut the window into my case and do a much needed reinstall of Winblows.
The mini-puter is soooooo cool. It was such a major pain to finish assembling. Even with my small hands, it took almost 5 minutes to get the power connector of the CPU fan hooked to the motherboard because of the lack of manuevering room! There's maybe 1/32 of an inch clearance for the back of the power connector of the CD-ROM drive. I thought I'd never get the IDE cable in! But I perservered and now it's a wonderful little gaming machine: 800 MHz with 128 megs (will soon be 256 megs) of RAM and a 32 meg TNT2 graphics card with built-in ethernet and sound. I installed Unreal Tournament and gave it a little test drive. Actually, I'm seriously thinking of putting together one of these babies for myself. It'd make a great cam machine--small footprint and low power draw!
I took things out of Pete's old machine, namely his CD-ROM and hard drive, and put them in his new machine. His new graphics card is at Mike's house, so I've got to make the run after work. Incidently, I STILL can't find my 1999 DragonCon badge, so I've got this wild hair that it might be with a box of comics I have sitting around at Mike's. Thus far I have 4 full badges and 3 half badges (which you get if you don't pre-register or don't buy the full 4-day pass). I laminated the 3 half badges so they'd hang nicely with the 4 full badges. I know this makes no sense to anyone but me, but trust me, tis tres cool. ;) Anyway, I can't figure out why both the badge and program from 1999 are missing when 1998's materials were so easy to find. I have this vague memory of maybe putting them in a box with other stuff I had bought during the trip.
Anyway, it was a glorious mess, computer cases, screws, pieces and parts strewn across the room! It was a combination of two things: 1) something I LIKE to do, and 2) something that NEEDED to be done. I derived an enormous amount of satisfaction from this activity!
The bunny was miffed that she wasn't the center of attention and couldn't understand, "No, no, no, no, bunny, don't munch the power connectors! No, no, no, no, bunny, IDE cables aren't tasty!" Getting aggravated, she then turned toward chewing on the corner of the couch, a DEFINITE no-no! When I picked her up and moved her to keep her from destroying the couch, well, that was just IT! She ran out of the room and went to go sulk in her condo. Much stroking and bribing with raisins and pieces of dried papaya was necessary before she'd acknowledge my existence again, but even so, this morning I was throughly snubbed, "You don't love me, you only love your computers!"
Whoever said that rabbits don't hold grudges never met Angelbunny!
