There is this ONE thing I dislike about my current company. (Okay, this and the fact that they assigned me to this godforsaken project.) My current company has the most parsimonious holiday schedule ever, to wit, we do NOT get the day after Thanksgiving nor any of the time between Christmas and New Year's Day, hence my hoarding of leave (my preciousssssss).

What we DO get is two floating holidays. I have used one to cover the day after Christmas (a Friday). The other covers my Lord of the Rings marathon--I'm on my own for the day after. I'll come in the next day to work and tough it out. I've come in on less sleep. :) By sacrificing my mental well-being, I hoard enough leave to cover the days between Christmas and New Year's Day, plus have two days of leave to take into 2004. I had trouble having enough leave to get through April-December; I need every hour I can scavenge!

So, today I'm sitting in the desserted downtown office, and I describe it as such accurately. There is me. And possibly a security guard. I only suspect there is a security guard because there's a car parked in a spot marked "Security." Officially, the building is closed. The elevators and climate control are off. Luckily, I have a ceiling fan, not to mention it's probably in the low 50s outside. (Blustery weather for Pensacola.) It's surprisingly creepy without the normal day-to-day bustle.

Today is one of those "loss-leader" days for me. If I were off, I'd be putting in hours for the freelance company and making $7 an hour more. ::sigh:: But I must be in loco so that we may achieve the desired labor burn rate.

I have this one stupid drawing to finish illustrating what information flows from one database to another. If you only knew how much I abhor this stuff. :) Can I whine more about it?

On the bright side, at least I'm not working in a store today. :) Or even in a store today. Somewhere along the way I developed a fundamental impatience with lines, malls, and crowds. I'm coming to the conclusion that if amazon.com and the like can't deliver it, it ain't being given. I really do NOT want to brave the masses.
