Big Overture
Jul. 11th, 2005 07:37 pm...small show...
We just got power back. We lost power at 1:40 PM yesterday. Bored, I fell asleep to the sound of the wind howling, but when I woke up 2 hours later, everything was over. Not much debris, not much damage. The west side of the town was spared and the east side took the brunt of the damage.
Even though Hurricane Dennis was packing more power than Ivan, wind-wise, it was a small, compact storm. Ivan was a big, sprawling storm that battered the city for over 10 hours with hurricane force winds. Dennis came and went quickly. We didn't have much more debris than from any other bad thunderstorm, despite the winds. Ivan had already shaken down/thinned out the weaker structures.
In the end, Pensacola benefited from the slight easterly jog in Dennis' path.
So everyone's okay, and, of the gang, only Mike and I suffered from a power outage. Listen, I'm just grateful it was only 30 hours without power, not 11 days like last time!
