WoW Life and Real Life
Oct. 13th, 2005 11:11 amIt's been a rough few weeks. I've been stressed, tired, and suffering from the after effects of too much sugar and caffeine. The sugar and caffeine part really tells after a while, my emotional state starts to plummet, I can't concentrate, and I can't sleep. My frustration levels gets very low. And when things are really bad, I start disappearing beneath a bell jar of sorts, a wall of glass between me and the world. I move through it, muddle through daily life, but I feel removed from everything.
This week I've started trying to detox, so to speak. Less caffeine, less sugar, drinking more water, trying to eat better, getting more rest, avoiding stressful situations, etc. Somewhere in there, I've got to start easing in some exercise into the mix. [Talk about serendipity, I've just been talked into getting back into yoga by a co-worker and fellow WoW addict--they do classes here at work twice a week.]
Getting a handle back on the finances. It'll be a little tough until the next payday, but I'm caught up on paying everyone. It's not like the money wasn't there, it was--*I* was the part that wasn't there. I forced myself to face the task and just do it. I keep holding on to parts of the GTD ("Getting Things Done") philosophy--if it will take less than 5 minutes, just go ahead and do it, don't put it off.
Things I NEED to do to get them off my mind, end clutter around the house, and feel somewhat unburdened:
I wish I could take a week off and just get everything done.

In WoW life, I've been a bit frustrated. Haven't been playing a lot lately. Had a fixation on getting a particular piece of gear to help complete my armor set: Magister's Crown, the mage helm. It is dropped by a particular boss in a castle called Scholomance. It takes about 2 hours, maybe 2.5 hours, to work your way down to Darkmaster Gandling, the end boss of Scholomance. He actually drops everyone's helm, it's pure luck of the draw. I've been spectacularly unlucky. I've run Scholo 30-something times. On the 27th time, I saw Magister's Crown drop for the very first time--but I had already rolled on another piece of Magister's set, the gloves--thus making me ineligible to roll on the Crown. On other pieces of my armor, I'd been pretty lucky. Got the leg piece on the second Stratholme/Baron run. Got the chest piece on my 13th UBRS run. But the helm eluded me. Last night, the d*mn thing finally dropped. Doan gotta Scholo no mo'.
The silly part is...I have a better helm...I have the Crimson Felt Hat (AKA the pimp hat)...the stats aren't as good as Magister's Crown, but it has awesome pluses to damage. I don't know why I had to have the stupid Crown. But I have it, and I'm wearing it, by gawd! At least in town. :)
I now just need the bracers and boots to complete the set. So far, I have earned each piece; I've not bought nor been given any of my gear. I think I will just BUY the bracers. :) The boots I have to go out and get, unfortunately. No one wants to take on the boss that drops the boots, unfortunately.

Things I NEED to do to get them off my mind, end clutter around the house, and feel somewhat unburdened:
- Frickin' just finish the clear PC already! Good gawd almighty, I'm sick of seeing pieces and parts. My last excuse for not finishing the machine is gone: I spent the money to buy a nice SATA drive. So BUILD IT ALREADY! Getting the pieces and parts that are strewn across the room finally out of the way would make me soo happy!
I guess the thing that holds me back from actually building the machine is fear of screwing it up. It's my first water-cooled system, my first acrylic case, and with my current inability to focus, I'm afraid I'll forget some small but important detail and fry the sucker.
Possible solution: sit down and write a detailed checklist of what needs to be done. - Finish the bath/wash room renovation already! Finish sanding the walls, prime them, and then paint them. At least sand and prime them! The peeling paint revealed by removing the wallpaper is really horrible-looking. At least the primer will make the rooms look a little better. And once the paint is on the walls, you can start to think about finally getting the tile down.
- Renew your car tag! Before you get busted coming on base.
- Get your driver's side door fixed! The weather is beautiful, but taking the t-tops off and having to leave the windows up...is stupid.
- Go through the kitchen and get rid of food you'll never eat. End some of the clutter.
- Move the pinball machine to somewhere reasonable. On the bright side, at least you got it moved out of the front foyer and into the living room. Now slide it into a corner somewhere!
I wish I could take a week off and just get everything done.
