Jumping ship
Mar. 9th, 2006 11:14 amI'm sitting here stunned.
My Yoda, the friend that helped get me this position, the one who kept saying up and down that he was going to end his days here...
He just broke the news to me that he's jumping ship.
Oh, sh*t.
The funny part is...just a week or two ago, I asked him if he knew of any openings at a company where we have some friends and fellow Survivors of the Evil Empire. Turns out, that's where he is going. I made him promise to give me a call if there was room on the lifeboat. He said it nearly killed him to not say anything at the time, but it was all very much up in the air and the deal just firmed up yesterday. The other company has just won several fat contracts of several years duration and was gearing up.
Turns out some things our big boss said when I got moved to programming...made much more sense. She had mumbled something about funding and trying to find secure spots for people. As usual, when money is tight, training is the first to go. His position (and my former position) were no longer going to be funded in light of the BRAC. They wanted to stick my friend in testing. That was the final straw for him.
Man...I'm still stunned. At least my chances increase if a position opens at the other company.
