Belated update
Jul. 18th, 2006 02:24 pm1 week ago I finished my last prevpac blister pack. 112 pills over 14 days. My stomach is still settling after all the abuse, but it's interesting how I've already lost a few pounds simply because I don't have to eat to quiet the gnawing pain in my gut. I'd be driven to eat over the course of the day because of what I thought were hunger pangs. Turns out the sensation was just pain. Eating something would relieve the pain. Now, no nagging pain. I'm having to learn all over again what actual hunger feels like.
It's nice to be able to get into bed and not feel the creeping, acidic burn work its way up my esophagus, and to not awaken to a throat etched with acid.
So, it's all good.
Now that part of the puzzle is solved, it only throws more sharply into relief just how bad my sleep deficit actually is.
Granted, sometimes my sleep deprivation is self-inflicted. If I play all night, I deserve what I get. But I do get aggravated when I go to sleep at a decent time and awake even more tired in the morning. I've been dragging for over a week now, just so bloody exhausted all the time. I bought the Nintendo DS game, "Brain Age," which encourages you to play/train daily and gives you graphs of how well you're doing. One of the games involves memory numbers and positions--it's fascinating to see that of all the skills affected by sleep depreviation--memory is the one that takes the biggest hit.
Tomorrow is my neurologist consultation, which is really just the means of getting a referral to the Sleep Clinic.
