I have fallen into the trap of computers for computers' sake instead of computers as a means to an end. I find I really enjoy setting up machines and tinkering and personalizing them. Actually doing anything useful with them, eh, not so much. :)
I'm using ichicolco's former laptop (it's really hard to call a 3.2 gigahertz laptop with a 1680x1050 LCD and an ATI Mobility 9700 with 128 megs of video RAM "old") with an eye to buying it. It's a gutbuster; it's well over 10 pounds. My guess is 13 pounds with battery and power brick in tow, but, day-um, it's beautiful. It's the machine I've been playing WoW on, because I like to sit in different places when I play games. If you're gonna sit for hours on end in a spot, it's nice to be able to change up your spot upon occasion. My current spot is in front of the coffee table. I sit on the floor with my legs crossed, playing with the right hand and petting the bunny with the left hand. It's pretty much ideal.
It's hard to justify the laptop, not with the 3 gigahertz Shuttle and 17" LCD panel not 6 feet away from me, not to mention the Tablet PC and the Libretto. And the 700 MHz Toshiba Satellite sitting in the guestroom and my Athlon system in the aluminum case and my Celeron in the windowed/lit case. And the fact that I have all the components now to build my clear PC. At least ichicolco sells some of his old stuff before acquiring new stuff. :)
Then there's Mike's machines... :) His shuttle, the server, the firewall, the webserver, and two or three more machines upstairs, and his Powerbook and his Sony U3, not to mention the old IBM Thinkpad (Pentium 60) and Dauphin DTR-1 and ...
We're hopeless. :)
